Light waves bounce off an object and into our eyes. Inside an eye, they hit the light-sensitive detectors arranged at the back.

These detectors form a kind of screen onto which the image is projected, like a movie is projected onto a screen. The detectors that make up this screen send tiny electrical pulses into our brain and this gives us the ability to see the object.
